He was born on October 27, 1997, in Anaheim, California, and was raised in a basketball-loving family. Ball attended Chino Hills High School, where he played basketball and led his team to a 35-0 record in his senior year. He went on to play college basketball for the UCLA Bruins, where he further developed his skills as a point guard. In his only season with UCLA, Ball was a consensus first-team All-American and won numerous awards, including the Wayman Tisdale Award for the top freshman in the country.
