Luis Scola is a former professional basketball player who was born on April 30, 1980, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He began his basketball career as a youth player for the Argentine club Ferrocarril Oeste in 1995. In 2007, Scola joined the Houston Rockets of the NBA as a free agent. During his five seasons in Houston, he was a member of the NBA All-Rookie Team in 2008 and was named to the All-NBA Rookie Second Team that same year. Scola played a total of ten seasons in the NBA for the Rockets, the Phoenix Suns, the Indiana Pacers, the Toronto Raptors, and the Brooklyn Nets. Throughout his NBA career, Scola averaged 12.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.

Scola also played extensively for the Argentina men's national basketball team from 1999 to 2016. He led Argentina to a gold medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, and a bronze medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Scola also helped Argentina to win the FIBA Americas Championship twice, in 2001 and 2011, and the silver medal in the FIBA World Cup in 2002. Overall, Scola is considered one of the greatest Argentine basketball players of all time, famous for his physical strength, mid-range game, and hard-nosed style of play.
