Marreese Anthony Speights is a former professional basketball player born on August 4, 1987, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He started his basketball career at Admiral Farragut Academy, where he played for the school's basketball team before moving to Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia. In 2006, he enrolled at the University of Florida, where he played basketball for the Florida Gators men's basketball team. Speights helped the Gators win the SEC Tournament title in 2007 and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2007.
In 2008, Marreese Speights was selected by Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the NBA draft. During his rookie season, he played for the 76ers reserve team and averaged 7.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. He improved his game with every subsequent season with the 76ers, and in 2012, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. Speights continued to play for several other teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, and Orlando Magic, before retiring in 2019. He played a total of 10 seasons in the NBA, and his career average was 7.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Despite his relatively modest statistics, Marreese Speights was known for his versatility and flexibility, which made him an important player for the teams he played for. He could play both power forward and center positions with great ease and had a decent mid-range jump shot, which made him an excellent pick-and-pop player.
