Maurice Ager, born on February 9, 1984, is a retired American professional basketball player, most well-known for his time in the NBA. Ager was born in Detroit, Michigan, and began his basketball journey in middle school, where he quickly emerged as a standout player. He played high school basketball at Crockett Technical High School, where he was named a McDonald’s All-American in 2002. Ager continued his basketball career at Michigan State University, where he played from 2002-2006. During his time in college, Ager led the team to a Final Four appearance in 2005 and was named the Big Ten Player of the Year in his senior year in 2006.
In 2006, Ager was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the first round, as the 28th overall pick. He played for the Mavericks for two seasons from 2006-2008, and although he didn't see a lot of playing time, he was still an important part of the team. In August 2008, Ager signed with the New Jersey Nets, and played there for a season before being waived in February 2009. He then signed a contract with the Maine Red Claws of the NBA D-League, before being called up by the agersinger Strasbourg of the LNB Pro A, where he played until 2011. Ager's professional basketball career continued overseas, playing for several teams in the Euroleague and China, before retiring in 2019.
Overall, Maurice Ager had a successful basketball career, with numerous accolades and accomplishments. His college highlights, including his Final Four run and Big Ten Player of the Year honor, launched him into the NBA, where he played for four seasons.
