Mel Counts Autographs
Mel Counts was born on October 16, 1941, in the small town of Troutdale, Oregon. He grew up playing basketball and became one of the best players in the state during his high school years. After graduating from Troutdale High School, Counts went on to play college basketball at Oregon State University, where he became a three-time All-American.
Counts was a dominant force on the basketball court, standing at 7'0" tall with a remarkable scoring and rebounding ability. He was drafted by the Boston Celtics in the second round of the 1964 NBA draft and quickly became a key player for the team. Counts played for seven seasons in the NBA, spending four seasons with the Celtics and three with the Baltimore Bullets. His biggest NBA achievement came in 1968 when he helped the Celtics win the NBA championship, and then again in 1971 when he reached the NBA Finals with the Bullets.
After his retirement from the NBA, Counts returned to Oregon and settled down with his family. He worked as a real estate agent and became an active community member. He also remained involved in basketball, serving as a radio analyst for Oregon State basketball games. Counts passed away on December 4, 2015, at the age of 74, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest basketball players to come out of Oregon.
