Mitch Kupchak Autographs
Mitch Kupchak was born on May 24, 1954, in Hicksville, New York. He attended the University of North Carolina and played college basketball for the Tar Heels from 1973 to 1976. Kupchak was a two-time All-ACC performer and helped lead North Carolina to the 1976 NCAA Championship.
After graduating from college, Kupchak was drafted by the Washington Bullets with the 13th overall pick in the 1976 NBA Draft. He played for the Bullets from 1976 to 1981, where he won two NBA Championships in 1978 and 1979. He then played for the Los Angeles Lakers from 1981 to 1986, where he won two more NBA Championships in 1982 and 1985. Kupchak retired as a player in 1986 and ended his career with career averages of 10.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.
After his playing career, Kupchak became a coach and executive in the NBA. He served as an assistant coach for the Lakers from 1986 to 1988, an assistant GM for the Lakers from 1987 to 2000, and a GM for the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets from 2010 to 2018. Kupchak then returned to the Lakers in 2018 as their president of basketball operations. Kupchak has had a successful career in the NBA and is considered one of the most respected executives in the league.
