Moses Malone Autographs
Moses Malone was an American professional basketball player who is considered as one of the greatest centers in the history of the sport. Born on March 23, 1955, in Petersburg, Virginia, Malone played basketball at Petersburg High School where he led his team to three state championships. After high school, Malone was drafted by the Utah Stars in the American Basketball Association (ABA) but chose to play for the professional team, the San Diego Conquistadors. However, he only played for two games before being traded to the Spirits of St. Louis where he played his first full season in the ABA.
In 1976, the ABA merged with the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Malone was traded to the NBA's Buffalo Braves. He spent one season in Buffalo before playing for three different teams in the following three seasons. However, it was his time with the Houston Rockets where he had his greatest successes as a basketball player. Malone played for the Rockets from 1976 to 1982 where he earned three Most Valuable Player awards and led the Rockets to the NBA Finals in 1981. In 1983, he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers where he helped lead the team, alongside Julius Erving, to an NBA championship in 1983.
Overall, Malone played for several different teams throughout his 20-year career in the NBA. He was an All-Star 13 times, won four rebounding titles, and was named to the NBA's All-Defensive Team three times. He was known for his strength and physicality on the court, and his ability to dominate the boards. Malone is ranked eighth in all-time career points in the NBA and third in career rebounds. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001, just four years after retiring from basketball in 1997.
