In the 1987 NBA draft, Bogues was selected 12th overall by the Washington Bullets, making him the shortest player in NBA history at the time. He played for the Bullets for four seasons before being traded to the Charlotte Hornets in 1991. During his ten seasons with the Hornets, Bogues established himself as a fan favorite and a key player on the team, averaging 9.4 points and 8.8 assists per game during his time in Charlotte. He was also known for his impressive defensive skills, often stealing the ball from opposing players with his quick hands and low center of gravity.

Bogues retired from the NBA in 2001 and was honored by the Charlotte Hornets by having his number 1 jersey retired in 2019. He remains one of the most beloved players in the history of the franchise and is widely regarded as one of the greatest point guards of his era. After his playing career, Bogues has worked as a basketball coach and mentor, inspiring young athletes to work hard and pursue their dreams regardless of their size or perceived limitations.
