Nick Anderson Autographs
Nick Anderson was born on January 20, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in a predominantly African-American neighborhood, and basketball was a way of life. Anderson played for Simeon Career Academy, where he helped lead his team to two consecutive state championships. In 1986, Anderson accepted a basketball scholarship to the University of Illinois. As a freshman, he played in 34 games, averaging 6.2 points and 3.8 rebounds. Anderson continued to improve, and in his junior season, he was named an All-American and helped lead the Fighting Illini to the Final Four.
After his junior season, Anderson declared for the NBA draft and was selected 11th overall by the Orlando Magic in 1989. Anderson quickly established himself as one of the league's top young players, averaging 15.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in his rookie season. He was named to the NBA's All-Rookie First Team and finished second in Rookie of the Year voting. Anderson spent the next ten seasons in Orlando, where he became one of the Magic's all-time greats. He helped lead the team to the NBA Finals in 1995, where they lost to the Houston Rockets. Anderson retired after the 2002-2003 season with career averages of 14.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.
Off the court, Anderson has been involved in philanthropic work, including founding the Nick Anderson Foundation in 1995, which raises money for children's charities. He continues to remain involved in the sport of basketball, including serving as a commentator for NBA TV. Anderson's impact on the game of basketball can still be felt today, as he helped pave the way for players like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant. He will forever be remembered as one of the greatest players in Orlando Magic history and one of the most talented shooting guards in NBA history.
