Nixon played his college basketball at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he led the team to an appearance in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) during his senior year. In addition to his success with the Lakers, Nixon also played for the San Diego Clippers and the Atlanta Hawks during his NBA career. He retired from professional basketball in 1989 with career averages of 17.2 points, 7.6 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game. After his playing career ended, Nixon became a successful entrepreneur and worked as a television analyst for NBA games.
