Norm Van Lier Autographs
Norm Van Lier was born on April 1, 1947, in East Liverpool, Ohio. He enrolled at Saint Francis College of Pennsylvania, where he was a star basketball player. In 1969, Van Lier was picked in the third round of the NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls. He instantly became a fan favorite due to his tenacity on defense and his fiery spirit on the court.
Van Lier teamed up with Jerry Sloan to form one of the best defensive backcourts in the history of the NBA. They were dubbed the "Bruise Brothers" for their physical style of play. Van Lier was an excellent ball handler and passer, averaging 8.3 assists per game during the 1971-72 NBA season. He was a two-time NBA All-Defensive First Team selection and a four-time NBA All-Star. Van Lier played eight seasons with the Bulls before being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in 1978.
After his playing career, Van Lier became a popular analyst for local television stations in Chicago. He remained close to the Bulls organization and was a frequent presence at games and team events. Van Lier passed away on February 26, 2009, at the age of 61. He was posthumously inducted into the Bulls Wall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to the team. Van Lier is remembered by Bulls fans for his fierce competitiveness and his unwavering devotion to the team.
