Paul Pressey was born on December 24, 1958, in Richmond, California. He had a distinguished basketball career that began at the prestigious El Cerrito High School, where he was a standout player. Pressey then received a basketball scholarship from the University of Tulsa, where he excelled on the court. He became a four-year starter and led the team in scoring, rebounds, and assists in his senior year.
Paul Pressey then embarked on a successful professional basketball career, beginning with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1982. During his ten years with the Bucks, he set the franchise record for career steals at 2,517, which still stands to this day. Pressey was a versatile player who played multiple positions, averaging 12.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game in his career. He was also known for his defensive skills and was twice named to the NBA All-Defensive team.
After retiring from playing, Paul Pressey became a coach, first as an assistant with the Golden State Warriors, and then as part of the coaching staff of various other NBA teams, including the Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, and the Los Angeles Lakers. Pressey was highly regarded for his strategic thinking and exceptional communication skills, and he was a key factor in the success of the teams he worked with.
