Paul Westphal, born on November 30, 1950, is a retired American professional basketball player and coach. Westphal played in the NBA for 12 seasons, during which he made five All-Star appearances and won a championship with the Boston Celtics in 1974. After retiring as a player, Westphal went on to pursue a coaching career. He served as an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns, where he became known for his innovative offensive schemes. In 1992, he was named head coach of the Suns and led the team to the NBA Finals in his first season. He also coached the Seattle SuperSonics, Sacramento Kings, and the Brooklyn Nets. Westphal was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019, in recognition of his outstanding career in basketball as both a player and coach.

Throughout his career, Westphal was known for his smooth shooting ability and high basketball IQ. He was a versatile player who could play both guard positions, and his willingness to make the extra pass and play within a team system made him a valuable asset to any team he played for.
