Pervis Ellison, also known as "Never Nervous Pervis," was born on April 3, 1967, in Savannah, Georgia. Ellison began his basketball career at Louisville, where he led the Cardinals to a National Championship in 1986. He was named the Most Outstanding Player in the Final Four, thanks to his outstanding performance in the title game against Duke. Pervis declared for the NBA draft after just two seasons at Louisville, where he averaged 15.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
In the 1989 NBA Draft, Pervis was the first overall pick by the Sacramento Kings. He spent his first three seasons with the Kings and was named NBA Rookie of the Year in 1990. Ellison's NBA career was plagued by injuries, and he missed a total of 335 games due to health concerns. He was traded to the Washington Bullets in 1993 and eventually found success with the Boston Celtics in 1996, where he enjoyed a career revival and was part of a team that made it to the Eastern Conference Finals.
After an NBA career that spanned eleven seasons, Ellison retired from professional basketball in 2001. He finished his career with averages of 9.5 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. Despite his injury concerns, Pervis Ellison will always be remembered for his impressive college career, which earned him a place in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011. Ellison's journey from a talented college player to an NBA veteran is an inspiring story of perseverance, determination, and hard work.
