Pete Chilcutt is a retired American professional basketball player, known for his versatile skills as a power forward and center. He was born on September 14, 1968, in Sumter, South Carolina, and played college basketball at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Chilcutt was selected 27th overall in the 1991 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings, where he played for two seasons before moving on to play for the Houston Rockets, Vancouver Grizzlies, and Detroit Pistons.
Chilcutt's basketball career highlights include winning two NBA championships with the Houston Rockets in 1994 and 1995, where he played alongside legendary players such as Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler. He was known for his ability to stretch the floor as a big man, with a decent outside shot, high basketball IQ, and team-first mentality. During his eight-year NBA career, Chilcutt played in 460 games, with career averages of 4.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, shooting 48% from the field and 33% from three-point range.
After retiring from professional basketball in 1999, Chilcutt went on to pursue a coaching career, where he served as an assistant coach for various college basketball teams such as Valparaiso, East Carolina, and Mississippi State. In 2013, he was hired by the Charlotte Hornets as an assistant coach, where he worked under head coach Steve Clifford. Today, Chilcutt continues to serve as a basketball coach and mentor, passing on his knowledge and experience to the next generation of basketball players.
