Rico Gathers Autographs
Rico Gathers was an American football player who was popularly known for his exceptional performance on the field as a tight end. Born on January 7, 1994, in LaPlace, Louisiana, Gathers attended Edward Hynes Charter School in New Orleans before transferring to Riverside Academy. In high school, Gathers was a basketball standout, but he also played football, recording 53 receptions for 962 yards and 10 touchdowns in his senior year. His impressive statistics earned him the title of Louisiana's Mr. Football in 2011.
After completing his high school education, Gathers joined the Baylor University football team in 2012 as a power forward on the men's basketball team. He redshirted his freshman year to concentrate on basketball but later decided to focus on football. Gathers began to make a name for himself on the Baylor football team, thanks to his size, athleticism, and physicality. In his junior year, he recorded 47 receptions for 5 touchdowns and 756 yards. In his senior year, he had 50 receptions, 678 yards, and 8 touchdowns which made him a unanimous first-team All-Big 12 selection. After his college career was over, the Dallas Cowboys selected Gathers in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Despite being a basketball player-turned-footballer, Gathers picked up the nuances of the game quickly, and his size and athleticism made him an excellent red zone target. During his time with the Cowboys, Gathers played in 15 games and recorded three receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, a concussion kept him out of the entire 2019 season, and he was waived by the Cowboys in September 2019. After his release from the Cowboys, Gathers became a free agent and decided to retire from the NFL at the age of 26, ending his career on a relatively brief note.
