Rod Thorn Autographs
Rod Thorn is an American former professional basketball player and executive who played a significant role in the development and growth of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Born on May 23, 1941, in Princeton, West Virginia, Thorn attended NBA greats Bill Russell and Elgin Baylor in high school. He then went on to play college basketball at West Virginia University, where he was recognized as an All-American in 1963.
Following his incredibly successful college career, Thorn was drafted by the Baltimore Bullets in the first round of the 1963 NBA Draft. He played for the Bullets for a total of four seasons before being traded to the Seattle SuperSonics in 1967, where he played one season before retiring and transitioning to the basketball management side of the sport. Thorn was the general manager of the Chicago Bulls from 1978 to 1985 and was responsible for building the early championship team. Thorn was then named general manager of the New Jersey Nets in 2000 and is credited with bringing them great success as they reached the NBA Finals in both 2002 and 2003.
Throughout his basketball career, Rod Thorn was recognized as one of the great basketball executives and respected basketball minds in the sport. He served on several NBA committees, including the Competition Committee, and was named NBA Executive of the Year in 2002 by the Sporting News. Rod Thorn’s efforts to bring diverse and skilled players into the league have also been acknowledged, and it's clear that his contribution to the NBA will continue to be remembered and celebrated for years to come.
