Roy Tarpley Autographs
Roy Tarpley was an American professional basketball player who was born on November 28, 1964, in New York City. He was a standout in high school and went on to attend the University of Michigan, where he played basketball for four years. At Michigan, Tarpley was a dominant player, and in 1985, he was named the Big Ten Player of the Year. After his college career was over, he was drafted seventh overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1986 NBA Draft.
Tarpley spent most of his NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks, where he became one of the team's best players. In his rookie season, he won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award and was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In the 1987-1988 season, he averaged a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds per game. Tarpley was also known for his defense, and he was twice named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.
Unfortunately, Tarpley's career was cut short due to his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction. He was suspended from the NBA multiple times for violating the league's substance abuse policy, and ultimately, he was banned from the league in 1995 after failing another drug test. Despite his struggles, Tarpley will always be remembered as one of the most talented and versatile players to have ever played in the NBA.
