Ruben Patterson Autographs
Ruben Patterson was born on July 31, 1975, in Asheville, North Carolina. He went on to play college basketball at the University of Cincinnati, where he was a standout player. After being selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the 1998 NBA Draft, Patterson began his professional career playing for the Lakers and the Seattle SuperSonics before ultimately finding success with the Portland Trail Blazers.
Known for his physical play and defensive skills, Patterson earned the nickname “The Kobe Stopper” during his time with the Trail Blazers for his ability to shut down Kobe Bryant, one of the league’s best players. In 2002, Patterson averaged 14.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, helping the Trail Blazers make it to the playoffs. While he never won an NBA championship, Patterson had a successful career in the league, playing for a total of nine teams over the course of 10 seasons.
Off the court, Patterson had a few controversies, including pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of attempted assault in 2001 and serving time in jail for violating his probation in 2004. Despite these incidents, Patterson continued to play basketball in the NBA and overseas until 2011. Today, he is remembered as a tough and tenacious player who was never afraid to go up against some of the best in the game.
