He was a star basketball player at Wilby High School, where he earned the title of Connecticut's 2001 Gatorade Player of the Year. Gomes went on to attend Providence College, where he continued to excel in basketball. He averaged 21 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game in his senior year and was named the Big East Player of the Year.
Gomes was drafted by the Boston Celtics in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft. He made an instant impact in his rookie year, averaging 12.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Gomes played for several other teams, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Clippers, and Oklahoma City Thunder, during his ten-year NBA career. He established himself as a reliable and versatile player, capable of playing multiple positions and contributing to his team's success.
Gomes retired from professional basketball in 2016 and currently serves as an assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma. He also works as a basketball analyst for various media outlets.
