Sean May is a former professional basketball player from the United States of America. He was born on April 4, 1984, in Chicago, Illinois. Sean attended Bloomington High School in Illinois and was a standout player on the school's basketball team. He led his team to two consecutive state championships in 2001 and 2002. During his high school career, he was named the Illinois Mr. Basketball award, recognizing him as the best high school basketball player in the state.
After graduation, Sean attended the University of North Carolina and played for the Tar Heels basketball team, under head coach Roy Williams. In his sophomore year, he helped lead the Tar Heels to the NCAA Championship title in 2005, and was named a Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. Sean led the team in scoring with an average of 22.3 points and 10.7 rebounds in the championship game against the University of Illinois. Due to his impressive performance, he was selected as the No. 13 overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft by the Charlotte Bobcats.
Throughout his NBA career, Sean played for the Charlotte Bobcats and the Sacramento Kings. He struggled with injuries throughout his time in the NBA and was eventually forced to retire at the age of 27 due to a chronic knee injury. Nonetheless, May remains an important part of the Tar Heel basketball program and will always be remembered for his remarkable performance in the 2005 NCAA Championship.
