Slater Martin Autographs
Slater Martin was an American professional basketball player born on October 22, 1925, in Elmina, Texas. He played in the NBA for 11 seasons, from 1949 to 1959, and was one of the most successful point guards of his era. Martin played primarily for the Minneapolis Lakers (1949-1956) and the St. Louis Hawks (1956-1959), earning four NBA titles during his career.
Martin was known for his defensive skills and ball-handling abilities, as well as his excellent vision and court sense. He was a tenacious competitor and was often called upon to guard the opposing team's best players. Martin was also a talented passer and could score when needed, averaging 9.8 points and 4.2 assists per game during his career. Despite his size (5'10"), Martin was tough and fearless, and his teammates often praised his leadership and intensity.
After retiring from professional basketball, Slater Martin became a coach and led several high school and college teams over the next few years. In 1982, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest point guards to ever play the game. Martin passed away on October 18, 2012, at the age of 86, leaving behind a lasting impact on the sport of basketball.
