Sleepy Floyd Autographs
One of the most talented point guards in the history of basketball, Eric "Sleepy" Floyd was born on March 6, 1960, in Gastonia, North Carolina. Raised in the small town of Cherryville, Floyd showed a knack for sports from a very young age, particularly basketball. He played basketball for his high school team and was later recruited to play for Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
During his time at Georgetown, Sleepy Floyd developed his skills and became one of the most prolific players in the history of the university's basketball program. He averaged a remarkable 15.3 points and 6.1 assists per game during his junior season and went on to score a total of 1,138 points during his college career. He was particularly noted for his remarkable performance in the 1982 NCAA tournament in which he scored a record-breaking 183 points in just five games, leading Georgetown to the national championship game against North Carolina.
Sleepy Floyd's basketball career continued after college, and he was eventually drafted by the New Jersey Nets in 1982. However, he was soon traded to the Golden State Warriors, where he truly made a name for himself. At Golden State, Floyd quickly became known for his play-making abilities, and he averaged 14 points and 5.5 assists per game during his seven seasons with the team. He is particularly remembered for his incredible performance in the 1987 Western Conference semifinals against the Los Angeles Lakers when he scored 51 points, including a record 29 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Warriors to an improbable victory. Sleepy Floyd retired from the NBA in 1995 after playing for several other teams, including the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs.
