One of the most talented point guards in the history of basketball, Eric "Sleepy" Floyd was born on March 6, 1960, in Gastonia, North Carolina. Raised in the small town of Cherryville, Floyd showed a knack for sports from a very young age, particularly basketball. Sleepy Floyd's basketball career continued after college, and he was eventually drafted by the New Jersey Nets in 1982. However, he was soon traded to the Golden State Warriors, where he truly made a name for himself. At Golden State, Floyd quickly became known for his play-making abilities, and he averaged 14 points and 5.5 assists per game during his seven seasons with the team. He is particularly remembered for his incredible performance in the 1987 Western Conference semifinals against the Los Angeles Lakers when he scored 51 points, including a record 29 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Warriors to an improbable victory.
