Vern Mikkelsen Autographs
Vern Mikkelsen was an American basketball player who was born on October 21, 1928, in Parlier, California. He played college basketball at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where he was named an All-American in 1949 and 1950. After college, Mikkelsen was drafted by the Minneapolis Lakers in the second round of the 1950 NBA draft.
Mikkelsen played for the Lakers for ten seasons from 1950 to 1959 and was a key player in the Lakers' championship-winning teams from 1952 to 1954. He was known for his tough and physical style of play, which earned him the nickname "Mr. Roughhouse." Mikkelsen was also a four-time NBA All-Star during his career and was named to the All-NBA First Team three times.
After retiring from basketball, Mikkelsen became a successful real estate developer in the Minneapolis area. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995, and in 2002, the Lakers retired his number 19 jersey. Mikkelsen passed away on November 21, 2013, at the age of 85, but his impact on the game of basketball and the Lakers organization will never be forgotten.
