Vernon Carey Autographs
Vernon Carey Jr. is a former American college basketball player who played for the Duke Blue Devils. He was born on February 25, 2001, in Miami, Florida, and his father Vernon Carey was a former NFL offensive tackle. Vernon played basketball and football in high school before focusing solely on basketball, which proved to be a smart decision given his success.
Carey was the number one ranked high school basketball prospect in the country in the Class of 2019. He received several accolades during his tenure, including the Gatorade Player of the Year award for the state of Florida in 2018-19. Carey had a sensational freshman season at Duke, he averaged 17.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game. As a result, he was named the 2019-20 ACC Freshman of the Year and a first-team All-ACC selection. After his freshman year, he declared for the 2020 NBA draft, where he was selected 32nd overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the second round. He later signed a four-year contract with the team.
In his debut NBA season, Carey split his playing time between the Hornets and their G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm. He played in 19 NBA games, averaging 3.5 points and 2.3 rebounds per game, while also getting significant playing time in the G League. Carey has been working hard in the off-season to improve his game and hopes to have a more prominent role in the upcoming season. With his size, speed, strength, and excellent shooting touch, he has the potential to become a solid contributor on the Hornets' roster for years to come.
