Simon Brown was born on January 27, 1963, in Kingston, Jamaica. He moved to the United States when he was a teenager and started his boxing career in 1982. Brown developed as one of the best boxers in the welterweight division during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Brown became famous in 1988 when he defeated Tyrone Trice to win the International Boxing Federation's welterweight title. He would go on to hold the title for almost three years and eventually lose to James McGirt in 1991. Brown had an accomplished career and notable matches; he scored a stunning knockout win over Roberto Duran in 1989 and successfully defended his title nine times before suffering his first defeat. Following his loss to McGirt, Brown moved up in weight class and won the World Boxing Organization's junior middleweight title in 1993.

Brown is currently recognized as a legend in the sport of boxing. The Ring magazine in their ranking placed him as the welterweight ninth best fighter of all time, and he was a respected fighter during his reign as champion. Brown retired in 1999 with a record of 47 wins, 7 losses, and 31 knockouts. His victories and captivating fighting style made him one of the most iconic boxers in history, making his mark as a boxing legend, still remains a true inspiration to many future boxers.
