Alex Hawkins Autographs
Alex Hawkins was an American professional football player who made his name as a running back in the National Football League (NFL) in the 1960s. Born on July 2, 1937, in Welch, West Virginia, Hawkins played college football for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. He was drafted into the NFL in 1959 by the San Francisco 49ers but didn't make an impact in his rookie season.
Hawkins' football career didn't take off until he joined the Baltimore Colts in 1961. He played for the Colts for eight seasons, during which he established himself as one of the league's premier running backs. He was a versatile player who excelled at both running and receiving. In 1963, Hawkins had his best season, rushing for 460 yards on 92 carries and scoring four touchdowns. He was also a valuable receiver out of the backfield, catching 36 passes for 547 yards and six touchdowns. Hawkins also participated in two NFL championship games with the Colts, winning in 1958 and losing in 1964.
Hawkins ended his NFL career in 1969 with the Atlanta Falcons, who he played for in his final two seasons. After retiring from football, Hawkins worked as a sportscaster, covering college football games, and later became president of the NFL Alumni Association. He passed away on March 13, 2017, at the age of 79. Alex Hawkins will be forever remembered as one of the most dynamic and versatile running backs to play in the NFL.
