James Baldwin was born on July 15, 1971, in Southern California. He grew up playing baseball with his older brothers and his passion for the sport continued to grow as he entered high school. After graduating from high school, Baldwin was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth round of the 1990 MLB Draft. He spent several years in the minors, where he developed his skills and refined his pitching technique.
