Hall's greatest successes in racing were in sports car racing, particularly in endurance racing. He won the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1965 and 1968, Sebring 12 Hours in 1965, 1967, and 1968, and the 12 Hours of Reims in 1964. He also claimed the Sports Car Club of America championship title in 1961, 1963, 1964, and 1965. Hall's success in sports car racing led CAR and DRIVER magazine to name him as the "Driver of the Year" in 1965.

Jim Hall was not only successful in racing but also had a talent for innovation. He founded Chaparral Cars, a racing team and constructor, where he designed and built unique cars. He was known for his unorthodox designs that incorporated aerodynamics and lightweight materials. This led Chaparral Cars to win multiple championships and several races. Jim Hall's pioneering engineering achievements were groundbreaking in motorsport, earning him a place in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.
