Ken Burns Autographs
Ken Burns is a renowned filmmaker known for his documentary films about American history. Born on July 29, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York, Burns grew up watching his father's baseball films, which sparked his love for the sport. His father was an amateur filmmaker who captured footage of amateur baseball games in his hometown of Newark, New Jersey. Burns became a self-taught filmmaker and created his first documentary film about baseball in 1984, which aired on PBS.
Burns' baseball documentary, titled "Baseball," was a massive success and turned him into a household name. The nine-part series chronicled the history of baseball in the United States from its inception in the mid-1800s to the present-day. The documentary, which aired in 1994, was narrated by Burns and featured interviews with prominent baseball players, coaches, historians, and fans. It became one of PBS's most-watched programs and helped revive interest in the sport in the mid-1990s, which had been waning since the 1980s.
Burns continued to make documentaries on various subjects, but baseball remained his first love. He produced several other baseball films, such as "The Tenth Inning," "Jackie Robinson," and "The Curse of the Bambino." Burns' love affair with baseball has been long-lasting, and he has said that "it is the most perfect of games, the one where you have to do everything right, and it has a perfect geometry." He has also credited the sport with helping him become a storyteller, as he believes that "the best stories in America are the ones that come from baseball."
