Wagoner recorded his first hit single, "A Satisfied Mind," in 1955, and he quickly became a regular performer on the Grand Ole Opry. He continued to release hit singles throughout the 1960s, including "Misery Loves Company," "Green, Green Grass of Home," and "The Cold Hard Facts of Life." In addition to his successful recording career, Wagoner also hosted a popular television show called "The Porter Wagoner Show," which aired from 1960 to 1981. The show helped to launch the careers of several notable country music performers, including Dolly Parton, who was Wagoner's duet partner for several years.

Wagoner continued to perform and record throughout the 1980s and 1990s, but his popularity waned in the decades that followed. He remained a beloved figure in the country music community, however, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2002. Wagoner died on October 28, 2007, at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most influential and innovative performers in the history of country music.
