Al Smith, born on February 7, 1931, was an American professional baseball player who is best known for his career as an outfielder for the Chicago White Sox. Smith attended DuSable High School in Chicago, where he developed his love for the game. Smith had his breakthrough in the 1953 season and played for the Chicago White Sox for six seasons. In his career, he recorded a .272 batting average, 164 home runs and 792 RBI's, and was known for his excellent defensive skills as an outfielder. He was an All-Star in 1955 and played a pivotal role in the White Sox's success. He was also part of the 1959 World Series team and was described as the dominant outfielder for the team.

After retiring from baseball, Smith became a successful businessman and was later involved in the creation of the Major League Baseball Players Association, advocating for fair wages and better working conditions for players. The baseball player turned businessman passed away on January 9, 2002. He will always be remembered as a legend in the game of baseball, and his contributions to the sport will never be forgotten.
