Alphonso Smith is a retired professional American football player. Born on October 19, 1985, in Pahokee, Florida, Smith played college football at Wake Forest University. During his college career, Smith was a star athlete earning several accolades, including being named First-Team All-ACC in 2007.
In 2009, Smith entered the NFL Draft, and he was picked in the second round by the Denver Broncos. In his rookie season, he played in 15 games, making two interceptions and 37 tackles. Smith played for the Broncos for one more season before being traded to the Detroit Lions in 2010. While at the Lions, he played in 24 games, making three interceptions and 107 tackles. Due to a lingering injury, Smith was released by the Lions in 2011, and he was out of the league for the 2012 season before concluding his professional career with a brief stint with the Dallas Cowboys in 2013.
Smith’s career in professional football may have been short-lived, but he had an outstanding college career that set him apart as a top player. While he was not able to achieve the same success in the NFL, Smith’s contributions on the field and relentless work ethic have left an indelible mark on the football community. Today, he is committed to using his experience and knowledge of the sport to mentor young athletes and help them achieve their goals both on and off the field.
