Andy Nelson Autographs
Andy Nelson is a former professional American football player who played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL) for the Baltimore Colts. He was born on December 3, 1920, in Waxahachie, Texas, USA. Nelson was 6 feet 2 inches (1.88 meters) tall and weighed 195 pounds (88 kilograms). He played college football for the University of Oklahoma Sooners and was a member of their 1947 national championship team.
In 1949, Nelson was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. He played for the Colts for his entire career, which lasted from 1949 to 1956. During his time with the team, Nelson was a standout player and was regarded as one of the best safeties in the league. He was named an All-Pro player in 1953 and 1954 and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1953, 1954, and 1955. Nelson was also a member of the Colts team that won the NFL Championship in 1958, although he had retired from playing by that time.
After his playing career ended, Nelson worked as a coach and scout for various NFL teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals, the Houston Oilers, and the Baltimore Colts (who had moved to Indianapolis by then). He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. Sadly, Nelson passed away on April 9, 2006, at the age of 85, but his legacy as one of the greatest safeties in NFL history lives on.
