Ara Parseghian, born on May 21, 1923, in Akron, Ohio, was an American football player and coach. He played college football for the University of Akron and then transferred to Miami University, where he played halfback and defensive back. Parseghian’s coaching career began in 1951 as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Miami University. He had coaching stints at Northwestern University and the University of Notre Dame. His coaching record at Notre Dame was an impressive 95-17-4 from 1964 to 1974. He led Notre Dame to two national championships in 1966 and 1973, and his teams had ten seasons with at least nine wins.
