Bill McCartney Autographs
Bill McCartney is a former head coach of the University of Colorado football team from 1982 to 1994. McCartney was born on August 22, 1940, in Riverview, Michigan. McCartney was a football player himself before becoming a coach. He played for the University of Missouri from 1959 to 1962. During his playing years, he played as a linebacker and was known for his toughness and hard-hitting style of play.
McCartney's coaching career began in 1966 as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Michigan. After coaching at Michigan, he moved on to the University of Colorado in 1982. The Colorado Buffaloes were not a good team when McCartney arrived. However, he turned things around quickly. In the 1985 season, the Buffaloes finished with a 7-5 record and earned a bowl game. McCartney continued to build on this success, and in the 1989 season, the Buffaloes went undefeated and won the national championship. McCartney retired from coaching in 1994 after compiling a record of 93-55-5 at Colorado.
In addition to his impressive coaching success, McCartney was also known for his strong Christian beliefs. He founded the Promise Keepers men's ministry in 1990, which aimed to help men become better husbands, fathers, and Christians. McCartney's influence on football and the lives of many young men who played for him at the University of Colorado and those he reached through Promise Keepers has had a lasting impact on American football and Christianity.
