Billy Vessels Autographs
Billy Vessels was born in Cleveland, Oklahoma in 1931. Known for his speed and agility, Vessels began playing football while attending the University of Oklahoma where he led the team to a National Championship in 1950. That year, Vessels was awarded the Heisman Trophy - a prestigious award given to the most outstanding college football player in the country.
After graduation, Vessels was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in the first round of the 1952 NFL draft. However, Vessels chose to play for the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League instead, where he was the league's leading rusher in 1953 with 1,231 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. In 1954, Vessels signed with the NFL's Colts and played with them for one season before joining the Canadian Football League's Saskatchewan Roughriders. Vessels retired from football in 1958 due to a knee injury, but not before he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1974.
Billy Vessels' impeccable college football career and impressive professional stats solidify him as a football legend. He is remembered not only for his undeniable talent on the field, but also for the barriers he broke as the first Heisman Trophy winner to play in the CFL. His success in both leagues showcases his versatility as a player and his unwavering dedication to the sport.
