Brad Childress is a former American football coach considered to be one of the most influential figures in the industry. Born on June 27, 1956, in Aurora, Illinois, he started his football career as a player while he was still in high school. He played quarterback and defensive back before graduating and moving on to play at Eastern Illinois University, where he played from 1975 to 1977.
Childress's coaching career began in 1978, where he first served as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Illinois. He then went on to become a position coach for various teams such as the University of Utah, University of Wisconsin, and Philadelphia Eagles. However, his most significant achievement was his time as head coach for the Minnesota Vikings. He took the team from a 6-10 season to two consecutive division championships, making a 22-10 record in two seasons. He also led the team to the 2009 NFC Championship game, which ended in a loss to the New Orleans Saints. Childress's coaching success was recognized in the NFL when he was named Coach of the Year in 2009.
After leaving the Vikings in 2010, Childress served as an assistant coach for various NFL teams before retiring in 2017. He devoted his life to American football, completing a long and distinguished career as one of the industry's leading figures. Brad Childress has played an essential role in shaping the football landscape and building exceptional teams, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire future generations of coaches and players.
