Cato June was born on November 18, 1979, in Riverside, California. He grew up in a family of athletes, his father, Robert June, was a football player for San Diego State, and his older brother, Robert Jr. also played football. Cato attended Annapolis High School in Maryland, where he played football, basketball, and ran track. However, he didn't receive any scholarship offers, and after graduating in 1997, he enrolled at Cerritos College in Norwalk, California. More about Cato June

June transferred to the University of Michigan in 1999, where he played for the Wolverines' football team. As a senior in 2002, June was named a first-team All-Big Ten selection and a second-team All-American. He finished his college career with 235 tackles, 10 interceptions, and six sacks.
