Clendon Thomas Autographs
Clendon Thomas is a former American football halfback who played professionally for both the NFL and AFL. Born on April 27, 1935, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Thomas started playing football during his high school years at Douglass High School. He was a powerful runner, and his impressive playing style caught the attention of college recruiters. In 1953, Thomas accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Oklahoma (OU), where he played for three seasons until 1956. During his stint at OU, Thomas was a two-time All-Big Seven Conference selection and led the conference in rushing yards in the 1955 season. He also helped his team win the Orange Bowl in 1955 and the Sugar Bowl in 1956.
In 1957, Thomas was picked in the third round of the NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. He played for the Rams for two seasons before being traded to the Green Bay Packers in 1959, where he played for one season. In 1960, Thomas joined the American Football League (AFL) and played for the Dallas Texans (now the Kansas City Chiefs) for three seasons. He was a key player in the Texans' win of the 1962 AFL Championship Game against the Houston Oilers, where he ran for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Thomas also played for the AFL's Oakland Raiders from 1963 to 1968, where he finished his professional career.
After playing football, Thomas worked as a high school football coach and later became a police officer. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 1990 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2014. Despite facing adversity due to his race during his early football career, Thomas went on to establish himself as a talented and accomplished football player, inspiring many young athletes to follow in his footsteps.
