Craig Heyward was a former American football player who played for a number of National Football League (NFL) teams during his career. Born in New Jersey in 1966, Heyward played college football at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a standout running back for the Panthers. He was a first-round draft pick in the 1988 NFL Draft, and went on to play for the New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, St. Louis Rams, and Indianapolis Colts. More about Craig Heyward

Off the field, Heyward was known for his charisma and larger-than-life personality. He was a fan favorite in every city he played in, and maintained strong ties to the Pittsburgh community throughout his life. Heyward passed away in 2006 at the age of 39 due to complications from brain cancer, but his impact on the game of football and the people he touched throughout his life is still felt to this day.
