Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch was an American football player born on June 17, 1923, in Wausau, Wisconsin. He played football at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was a two-time All-American halfback. After graduating from college, Hirsch was drafted by the Cleveland Rams in the first round of the 1945 NFL Draft. Hirsch played for the Los Angeles Rams for nine seasons before retiring in 1957. He finished his career with 387 receptions for 7,029 yards and 60 touchdowns. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1968, and his number 40 jersey was retired by the Los Angeles Rams. Crazy Legs Hirsch is remembered as one of the most exciting and innovative players in NFL history, and his contributions to the game continue to be celebrated to this day.
