Curtis Painter was born on June 25, 1985, in Vincennes, Indiana. He attended Lincoln High School in his hometown, where he played both football and basketball. As a quarterback, he led his high school team to a state championship in 2001, throwing for 2,409 yards and 30 touchdowns in his senior season. At Purdue, Painter played for four years and set several school records. He completed 987 of 1,649 passes for 11,163 yards, 67 touchdowns, and 46 interceptions. He led the Big Ten Conference in passing yards twice (2006, 2008) and was named the team’s MVP in 2006 and 2007. In the 2009 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected him in the sixth round.

In the NFL, Painter played for five seasons, primarily as a backup quarterback. He appeared in eleven games, starting eight of them. During his career, he completed 140 of 271 passes for 1,624 yards, six touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. His most extensive playing time came in 2011, when he started eight games for the Colts after Peyton Manning was injured. Although he struggled in his time as a starter, Painter’s contributions as a backup quarterback helped him earn praise from coaches and teammates alike.
