Dan Devine Autographs
Dan Devine was a legendary American football coach who coached at multiple colleges and professional teams. He was born on December 22, 1924, in Augusta, Wisconsin. Devine played high school football at Superior High School in Superior, Wisconsin, and then played college football at the University of Minnesota from 1944 to 1947. However, his coaching career is where he truly made his mark on the football landscape.
Devine began his coaching career in 1955 when he became the head coach at Arizona State University. In 1957, he led the Sun Devils to their first-ever bowl game. Devine then moved on to coach the University of Missouri from 1958 to 1970. During his tenure at Missouri, he won two conference championships and led the team to the Orange Bowl twice. In 1971, Devine became the head coach for the Green Bay Packers, where he won the NFC Central Division in his first season. He stayed with the Packers for three seasons before resigning due to differences with the team's management.
In 1975, Devine became the head coach at the University of Notre Dame, where he compiled a record of 53-16-1 over five seasons. In 1977, he led the Fighting Irish to a national championship, winning the Sugar Bowl against the University of Alabama. After leaving Notre Dame, Devine became the head coach of the University of Missouri for a second time, where he remained until his retirement in 1984. Dan Devine's impact on American football cannot be overstated, and he will always be remembered as one of the greatest coaches of all time.
