Dan Fortmann Autographs
Dan Fortmann was an American football player who played as a guard for the Chicago Bears from 1936 to 1943. Born on April 11, 1916, in Pearl River, New York, Fortmann had a standout career in football, both in high school and college. He attended Colgate University and played for the football team, where he was a two-time All-American player. Fortmann was also a member of the 1936 United States Olympic team in Berlin and won a gold medal in the shot put.
Fortmann's professional career in football was with the Chicago Bears, where he played as a guard for eight years. He was part of the team that won NFL championships in 1940, 1941 and 1943, and was also named an All-Pro player for six straight years, from 1938 to 1943. Fortmann was known for his excellent blocking skills and was considered one of the best guards in the league during his time. In 1965, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest players of all time.
After retiring from football, Fortmann went on to pursue a career in medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Chicago and became a doctor, specializing in gastroenterology. Fortmann was also an advocate for player safety and helped establish the NFL Players Association's player pension plan. He passed away on May 23, 1995, leaving behind an enduring legacy not only in football but also in the medical field and player advocacy.
