After graduating from college in 1971, Pastorini was drafted by the Houston Oilers as the third overall pick in the National Football League (NFL) draft. He quickly became the starting quarterback, leading the Oilers to two playoff appearances during his tenure with the team. Pastorini also played for several other NFL teams, including the Oakland Raiders, Los Angeles Rams, and Philadelphia Eagles. In total, he played 13 seasons in the NFL and threw for over 18,000 yards and 103 touchdowns.

Throughout his football career, Pastorini was known for his toughness and resilience on the field. He famously played through a broken jaw during a playoff game in 1978 and continued to play even after suffering several other injuries. After retiring from the NFL in 1983, Pastorini became involved in various business ventures and also worked as a television analyst. Despite no longer playing professionally, he remains a beloved figure in the world of American football and continues to be remembered for his contributions to the sport.
