Darrell Russell Autographs
Darrell Russell was an American football defensive tackle who began his professional career in 1997 after being drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the first round of the NFL draft. He played for the AFL’s Los Angeles Avengers in 2007, but he is best remembered for his time in the NFL, where he became one of the league's most dominant linemen.
During his rookie season, Russell led the NFL with 10.5 sacks and earned a Pro Bowl nomination. He went on to earn Pro Bowl honors every year from 1998 to 2000, and recorded a career-high 15 sacks in 1998. The defensive tackle was widely regarded as one of the league's best pass rushers and was a key player in the Raiders' defense during their Super Bowl appearance in 2002.
Unfortunately, Russell's career came to an abrupt end in 2004 when he was suspended from the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy for the second time. He was released by the Washington Redskins shortly after his suspension and never played another NFL game. Darrell Russell died in a car accident in 2005, and he remains a tragic reminder of the dangers of addiction and substance abuse. Despite his short-lived NFL career, Russell will always be remembered as a dominant force on the football field.
