Dave Lewis Autographs
Dave Lewis was born on June 3, 1953, in Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Canada. Lewis took to ice hockey at a young age and quickly became passionate about the sport. He played his junior career with the Saskatoon Blades and then moved on to play with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles of the Central Hockey League. Later, in 1974, Lewis was drafted in the second round by the New York Islanders.
Lewis played for the New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, and New Jersey Devils throughout his professional career, which spanned from 1974 to 1987. He tallied a total of 36 goals and 137 assists in 1,008 career regular-season games. However, Lewis' career was overshadowed by the 1981 playoffs, where he made an error in game 5 of the quarter-finals against the New York Rangers, which resulted in a game-winning goal for the Rangers. Despite this setback, Lewis' contributions to the sport were immense, and his defensive capabilities earned him recognition as one of the best defenders in the NHL.
After retiring from professional hockey in 1987, Lewis held various coaching positions with several teams, including the Red Wings, the Boston Bruins, the Los Angeles Kings, and the Carolina Hurricanes. In 2002, Lewis returned to the Detroit Red Wings as an assistant coach, where he helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 2008. Lewis has continued to play a pivotal role in NHL coaching and has been recognized as an important part of the sport's development.
