Dave Wannstedt is a former American football player and coach who was born on May 21, 1952, in Baldwin, Pennsylvania. He played college football as a defensive tackle for the University of Pittsburgh from 1970 to 1973, where he won a national championship in 1976 as the assistant coach. In 1980, Wannstedt was hired as the defensive coordinator for the University of Miami, where he was instrumental in leading the team to two national championships in 1983 and 1987. His success at Miami earned him an opportunity to become the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL in 1989. He helped the team win a Super Bowl in 1992 and was later promoted to head coach in 1993. During his five-year tenure with the Cowboys, he led the team to three playoff appearances and was named the NFC Coach of the Year in 1993.

In 1997, Wannstedt was hired as the head coach of the Chicago Bears, where he spent six seasons with the team, leading them to two playoff appearances. He then went on to coach the Miami Dolphins from 2000 to 2004, where he had a record of 42-31 and led the team to two playoff appearances. After his coaching days were over, Wannstedt began a career as a sports analyst and commentator, appearing on networks such as FOX and the NFL Network.
