Davey O'Brien Autographs
Davey O'Brien was a celebrated American football player who made his mark from 1936 to 1938. Born on May 22, 1917, in Dallas, Texas, he is considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the sport. O'Brien played college football at TCU (Texas Christian University), where he was an All-American and led the Horned Frogs to a national championship in 1938.
O'Brien's playing career was defined by an exceptional ability to read defenses and make quick decisions under pressure. He finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1937 before winning the award in 1938 while leading TCU to an undefeated season. He was also a two-time All-American, a feat that earned him induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. O'Brien's most memorable game came in the 1939 Sugar Bowl, where he threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns to lead TCU to a 15-7 victory over Carnegie Tech.
After college, O'Brien played one season with the Philadelphia Eagles before retiring to focus on his business career. However, his legacy in football continued as the Davey O'Brien Award was created in his honor in 1977. The award is given annually to the best quarterback in college football, with past winners including Peyton Manning, Cam Newton, and Baker Mayfield. O'Brien passed away at the age of 60 in 1977, but his impact on the sport of football continues to be felt to this day.
